The Do Bugs Need Drugs? (DBND) daycare program is for early childhood educators and children age two to five years.  Parts 1 & 5 are information and guidelines for staff, while Parts 2 – 4 provide support for teaching young children about handwashing and introduceing them to the concepts of germs and illness.  

For current standards and guidance on hygiene, sanitation of public spaces, and approved practices for day care and out-of-school care facilities during the coronavirus pandemic, please visit the Alberta Health information portal.

For teaching provided in BC, please complete a teaching documentation form and email to us so that we may credit you for participating and use the information to evaluate the program.

Handwashing Resources

Handwashing is one of the most important parts of staying healthy.  80% of common infections can be spread by the hands.  Good hand hygiene is an important part of managing a day care or classroom, and teaching children how to wash their hands correctly is important.  

Do Bugs Need Drugs has variety of materials to support children and staff in mastering the correct manner of washing hands.  In addition to English, we have handwashing posters in Blackfoot, Cree, French, and Stoney Nakota.  Please click on the link below to access download of these.
